SAMHSA News – Latest Issue

The Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) program at SAMHSA provides help in an ever-growing list of venues. SBIRT is expanding to include the next generation of service providers through a new medical residency grant program. Grantee highlights include Colorado, Alaska, and Pennsylvania. Pamela S. Hyde, J.D., SAMHSA’s new Administrator, was sworn in at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services by Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on December 7, 2009. Photos are included as well as the recent Web cast of the Administrator’s first comments to constituents on December 10.

New publication descriptions include Treatment Improvement Protocol #52, a guide to effective clinical supervision; and guidelines for responding to mental health crises (PDF).
