Resolved Question: Do addictions exist, or only dependencies?

I am a relatively light smoker. One pack will normally last me about 1 to 2 weeks. Many people tell me that I could become addicted eventually. With the philosophical nature of my personality, I began thinking, does addiction actually exist? Most people that become “addicted” to drugs only do so in the hopes they will experience a high like the first, such as with cocaine. Others become “addicted” because they feel it may be their only way to beat stress or depression. As for me, I only smoke when I get bored or when I go to parties. Do you think that a drug can actually control one’s brain, creating an actual addiction, or that people only become dependent on drugs? I would like to have some input and ideas on this. Thanks in advance.
